Europan 16 Competition – Ettlingen site (DE)
The design presented for the Europan 16 competition is a project that works on different scales, from territorial and landscape to urban and architectural design.
The strategic vision of the project focuses on north-south railway axes connecting Ettlingen with the city of Karlsruhe. This green infrastructure is also extended to the southern project area towards the green area where urban gardens and agricultural fields are already located.
We decided to keep and respect the industrial heritage of the area, proposing to restart and reinvent the productive role of this part of the city. The productivity here acquires a new meaning, thought for new workers and young people coming to the city.
The new settlement model is compact, in order to contain land consumption and to facilitate the need to move around the neighbourhood .
Public spaces are designed to be inhabited during the whole day, offering social interaction and functional complexity. The elevated squares will instead help in connecting the public buildings.
