The Archive of the Future Exhibition

“Cittadella degli Archivi” and “Politecnico di Milano” presents the exhibition of the students projects developed in the two-year period 2019/20 – 2020/21 on the theme of the expansion of the Cittadella degli Archives in via Gregorovius in Milan.

The projects presented are the result of the didactic works developed in the Final Design Laboratory in the third year of the Bachelor’s Degree at the School of Architecture, Urban Planning and Construction Engineering of the Politecnico di Milano, a course consisting of the teaching of Architectural Composition (Prof. Tommaso Brighenti), Digital Modeling (Prof.ssa Branka Cuca) and Urban Planning (Prof. Nicola Petaccia) and address the issue of the extension of the archive in via Gregorovius in relation to the area of the suburbs of Niguarda in Milan. The study objects of the laboratory and research activities are traced in the specific context of the Milan area and its periphery, focusing in particular on the theme of the regeneration of disused peri-urban areas in fragile or waste peripheral contexts. The intent was to propose innovative strategies for the re-actualization and re-contextualization of a particular typology, that of the archive, through the development of a series of projects for the new Archival Center of the Municipality of Milan, proposing strategies and project ideas for a large “Ideal Archive” as a place capable of structuring the knowledge and memory of the city of Milan.
